US auto giant Ford said Wednesday that China's largest independent carmaker Geely Automobile is its "preferred bidder" in talks over the sale of Swedish unit Volvo.
Hundreds on Saturday took to the streets of Tolyatti, home to Russia's largest carmaker Avtovaz, to protest mass layoffs at the ailing manufacturer and demand that its management steps down.
Earlier the carmaker was reported to be considering cuts of up to 36,000 employees, but said it has been able to "significantly lower the initial figure".
