LCD

(ēl′sē-dē′)
Short for liquid-crystal display. A low-power, flat-panel display used in many digital devices to display numbers or images. It is made up of a substance that is almost liquid, but also has a crystal structure like a solid, sandwiched between filtering layers of glass or plastic. When the device is turned on, the molecules of the "liquid crystal" twist so that they can either reflect or transmit light that falls on them to produce the number or image indicated by a computer.

The report analyzes the global E-paper market into the following segment: E-Paper market by technologies (Electrophoretic, electrochromic, electrowetting, cholesteric LCD, and others) The market data consists of aggregate sales figures for all the e-paper technologies.
Compared to the reflective displays using a color-filter array widely used in conventional LCDs, Fujitsu's cholesteric LCD method allows for a display that features colors with greater vibrancy and brightness.
In fact, for Japanese (who dislike GrayScale e-paper screens) there is FLEPia from Fujitsu already in the market using a colored cholesteric LCD screen from Kent that supports multimedia (video) files as well.
