circular error probable

An indicator of the delivery accuracy of a weapon system, used as a factor in determining probable damage to a target. It is the radius of a circle within which half of a missile's projectiles are expected to fall. Also called CEP. See also delivery error; deviation; dispersion error; horizontal error.

In August 2004, the MultiNational Corps, Iraq (MNC-I) submitted an urgent needs statement (UNS) requesting a precision-guided cannon munition with greater range and lethality than current munitions, a round that has a circular error probable (CEP) independent of range and a fire-and-forget capability.
65 percent of range circular error probable (CEP)--a 65-meter error at a range of 10 kilometers.
55 percent of the range at low-angle at 30 kilometers or less--165-meter circular error probable (CEP).
