The Penan have been opposing logging for decades, but the spectre of bulldozers coming in to clear-fell what is left of the jungles has proved too much to bear.
DURING the last few weeks laminated notices have been put in the Newborough forest car parks, to inform the general public about what the Countryside Council for Wales have in store for us with their ill-conceived plan to clear-fell at least 40% of this beautiful forest, which lies in an outstanding and unique area much loved by locals and visitors.
Does clear-fell harvesting - the usual forestry system employed in many forest types in south-east Australia - meet this goal?
