Clothes moths fit into the same category, and indeed, much of the damage to woollens attributed to clothes moths is really the work of carpet beetles.
But scientists have known that clothes moths also dine on dead animals in the wild, according to entomologist Sybil Bucheli of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
There are three common clothes moths in this country and, of those, one is prevalent: the webbing moth.
