clutter [ˈklʌtə] vb 1. (usually tr; often foll by up) to strew or amass (objects) in a disorderly manner 2. (intr) to move about in a bustling manner 3. (intr) to chatter or babble n 1. a disordered heap or mass of objects 2. a state of disorder 3. (Electronics) unwanted echoes that confuse the observation of signals on a radar screen [C15 clotter, from clotteren to clot] Clowder, Cludder, Clutter kendle or kindle of cats, 1801; a group of cats. Example: clowder of cats. Clutter a confused collection; a clotted mass; a crowded and confused group; a collection. See also clowder.
