Chop Suey is an elaborate collage film (employing contemporary and archival footage, voiceover narration and interviews) which loosely chronicles the young man's evolution, ending with Johnson's maturing into an independent adult person who has developed a more fully rounded idea of himself and the potential to be an open and expressive person.
