The British emigrant George Thorpe distilled America's first corn whiskey when he arrived in Virginia in 1620, but the Dutch were the first to sell it to the public in their newly adopted homeland.
John Kinder, bartender at DeLaCosta in Chicago, is infusing 60-day-old Georgia Moon Corn Whiskey with house-smoked corn to make a Smoked Corn Whiskey Sour that's a good match for DeLaCosta's entree of Adobo Tuna with quinoa and smoked corn.
Hirschberg suggests that acknowledging the corn was originally an admission that the speaker had been at the corn whiskey and was consequently corned, or drunk.
