A myofascial TP has been described as an area of hyperirritability located in a taut band of muscle, variously described as resembling a small pea or as a rope-like nodular or crepitant (crackling, grating) area within the muscle[1] that is painful upon palpation and refers pain, tenderness, and an autonomic (functionally independent) response to a remote area.
