INTRODUCTION The 2000 Uniform Vehicle Code and Model Traffic Ordinance define a crosswalk as "any portion of a roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface.
In compiling the report, researchers looked at driver reaction and performance upon detecting pedestrians in midblock crosswalks under varying experimental conditions, including various types of street lamps, the color of the pedestrians' clothing, the position of the pedestrians in the crosswalk, and the presence of glare.
But in the eyes of the law, a horse at a crosswalk is a pedestrian and has the right of way.
