In Mexico, there are three A-level customhouses, which are defined as those certified with high levels of security, flexibility and efficiency. Based on studies conducted by Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler in 1830 that showed no two customhouses in the nation used the same standards of mass or volume, Congress established a national Office of Weights and Measures under Hassler in 1836. Under Jackson, dozens of editors received political appointments, from customhouse collector to Librarian of Congress. |
