Damage assessment from Katrina is still underway and now the region is bracing for Hurricane Rita.
According to a damage assessment conducted by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, approximately 10,000 houses needed to be completely rebuilt and another 22,000 repaired.
The Florida Park Service dispatched hundreds of employees armed with heavy duty equipment to assist with damage assessment, habitat and infrastructure restoration, cleanup operations and distribution of food, water and supplies through local and national relief agencies.
