Conversely, tax positions that no longer meet the more-likely-than-not requirement should be derecognized in the next financial reporting period.
Likewise, a previously recognized tax position that no longer meets the more-likely-than-not recognition threshold should be derecognized by recording an income tax liability or reducing a deferred tax asset in the period in which the company concludes that it is more likely than not that the position will not be sustained on audit.
For those uncertain tax positions that initially meet the probable threshold resulting in the recognition of the tax benefit, the benefit would not be derecognized unless it becomes more likely than not that the benefit will not be sustained.
