blood pressure
n. Abbr. BP
The pressure exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels, especially the arteries. It varies with the strength of the heartbeat, the elasticity of the arterial walls, the volume and viscosity of the blood, and a person's health, age, and physical condition.

blood pressure
n
(Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Physiology) the pressure exerted by the blood on the inner walls of the arteries, being relative to the elasticity and diameter of the vessels and the force of the heartbeat

blood pressure
The pressure of the blood in the vessels, especially the arteries, as it circulates through the body. Blood pressure varies with the strength of the heartbeat, the volume of blood being pumped, and the elasticity of the blood vessels. Arterial blood pressure is usually measured by means of a sphygmomanometer and reported in millimeters of mercury as a fraction, with the numerator equal to the blood pressure during systole and the denominator equal to the blood pressure during diastole. Noun1.blood pressureblood pressure - the pressure of the circulating blood against the walls of the blood vessels; results from the systole of the left ventricle of the heart; sometimes measured for a quick evaluation of a person's health; "adult blood pressure is considered normal at 120/80 where the first number is the systolic pressure and the second is the diastolic pressure"
systolic pressure - the blood pressure (as measured by a sphygmomanometer) during the contraction of the left ventricle of the heart
diastolic pressure - the blood pressure (as measured by a sphygmomanometer) after the contraction of the heart while the chambers of the heart refill with blood
arterial pressure - the pressure of the circulating blood on the arteries; "arterial pressure is the product of cardiac output and vascular resistance"
venous pressure - the pressure exerted on the walls of the veins by the circulating blood
circulation - movement through a circuit; especially the movement of blood through the heart and blood vessels
force per unit area, pressure, pressure level - the force applied to a unit area of surface; measured in pascals (SI unit) or in dynes (cgs unit); "the compressed gas exerts an increased pressure"
vital sign - sign of life; usually an indicator of a person's general physical condition; "he was still alive but his vital signs were weak"

In a randomized clinical trial of 780 children with blood lead concentrations of 20-44 [micro]g/dL at 12-33 months of age, we compared the systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the succimer-treated group and placebo group for up to 5 years of follow-up.
Compared to ones taking normal water, the levels of blood pressure, namely systolic arterial pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean blood pressure, pulse pressure and total peripheral resistance, in those taking deep seawater were substantially lowered.
In addition, the effect on diastolic blood pressure was favorable in the alcohol-free group, whereas alcohol consumption prevented the lowering of diastolic blood pressure levels.
