Diagnostic workup included the following when appropriate: Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) with interview, provocative diskography (with a nonpainful control level), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and diagnostic facet injection. Buirski et al[18] compared lumbar MRI findings of disk degeneration with or without protrusion in 115 patients with chronic LBP who also underwent diskography and 63 people without low back symptoms who underwent MRI only. The authors reported that in subjects with symptoms, the likelihood of pain reproduction during diskography increased with the degree of disk degeneration. |
