A visitor may be a divine messenger, or simply a pest. Furthermore, the divine messenger authorizes the father to name the son: "She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins" (Matt 1:21). On the Christian side, this means not only that the Jewish Torah must be seen as currently valid, but that Jesus himself is better reconceived as "more a messenger for the Divine than a Divine Messenger. |
