The more posterior of the two nerve fiber bundles of a spinal nerve that carries sensory information to the central nervous system.

Previously, Smith and colleagues have "stretch-grown" axons (nerve fibres) by placing neurons from rat dorsal root ganglia, clusters of nerves just outside the spinal cord, on nutrient-filled plastic plates.
Units were isolated from lumbar (L)3 to L5 medially near the dorsal root entry zone up to a depth of 1,000 [micro]m.
