A usually brief period during which a drug that is typically taken on a daily basis, such as an antidepressant, is not taken or is replaced with another in order to minimize certain side effects.

It took much longer for me to get the T-20 than I had expected, leaving me on a drug holiday for nearly 8 months, during which time my health declined.
This has not seemed to occur in most controlled clinical trials, though the possibility of such resistance is very real and could occur if people attempt to take a drug holiday without the supervision of their doctor.
Ideally, the decision to take a drug holiday will be made jointly by the family and the physician, with appropriate input from the camp staff and the child, well in advance of the camp session.
