| A PICC-associated DVT was defined as a symptomatic event prompting a duplex ultrasonography study which confirmed venous thrombosis. Carotid duplex ultrasonography at that time revealed a 70 to 80% stenosis of the right internal carotid artery (figure). The study, "Screening for Carotid Artery Stenosis with Power Doppler Imaging Using a Portable Duplex Ultrasonography Device," was conducted at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. |
