| For the first time, members will be able to compare the cost of procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and cardiac catherizations, plus a full range medical imaging services among facilities in their area. A group of general surgeons, seeking to increase revenue, begins to perform endoscopies on their patients and to compete for procedure time with the current group of gastroenterologists who perform the majority of endoscopic procedures in the hospital's outpatient ambulatory center. We have performed in-office laser endoscopies on more than 180 patients at Wake Forest University during the past 2 years, and we have encountered no complications. |
