A settlement was reached in a class-action suit alleging that Sempra Energy, Southern California Gas and San Diego Gas & Electric conspired to drive up natural gas prices, leading to the 2000-01 California energy crisis.
As the state's energy crisis deepened, Harvey Rosenfield (the man who placed Proposition 103, the auto insurance rollback measure, on the 1988 ballot) threatened to place an initiative on the ballot to repeal any rate hikes enacted as part of a rescue package for insolvent Southern California Edison.
California's energy crisis has generated power for a tree-planting program, "Trees for a Green LA," created by Los Angeles Water and Power, the April issue of Forestry Source reports.
