If we take our cue only from the petitions of the Amidah, the Kaddish, and the Evening Prayer noted above, as the eschatologists seem to do, then the answer would appear to be: the wholly future Kingdom or Reign of God and the ardent hope that it may be brought ahead of its time into the present.
The contemporary reader, like medieval eschatologists, uses retrospection to modify his or her perceptions, in medias res, to accomodate the changing phenomenolgical world of the text.
Anyone in this great nation of ours can be a state legislator, and pretty much everyone is: madmen, con men, Book of Revelations-reading eschatologists.
