Lysmata grabhami presents a continuous middorsal white stripe from the tip of the rostrum to the end of the telson and the outer border of the uropodal exopods is also white (Figure 1).
With the absence of the labrum and concomitant modification of thoracopods into exopods and endopods, these two genera are also excluded from any of the existing poecilostome families.
Morphological adaptations for pelagic life such as natatory exopods, which occur in all species, and lightly calcified, almost membranous exoskeleton of some genera are evidence of the habitat they occupy (Bauer, 2004).

Larvae recorded as dead or moribund (lying motionless in the bottom of the plastic beaker for prolonged periods but still beating the exopods of their pereiopods) at the end of experimental trials were discarded, and those replicates were repeated.
Newly released larvae appeared to have undeveloped maxillipeds--the exopods were lacking setae--but showed the characteristic ornamentation of the zoea I (see below).
The family Sicyoniidae is morphologically peculiar in having the following features: (1) prosartema absent, (2) exopods absent from second and third maxillipeds, (3) pleopods with one ramus only, and (4) pleurobranchiae absent from fourth to sixth thoracic somites.
Species of Sicyonia, resemble those of Penaeidae in some genitalia characteristics, whereas with Aristeidae and Benthesicymidae share the lack of exopods in the pereopods 1-5, and absence of the ocular scale.
