| Extrapolative challenges, such as predicting potential distribution of invasive species, anticipating species' responses to global climate change, and identifying unknown reservoirs or vectors, require different qualities of modeling algorithms; different methods therefore appear to emerge as superior, according to the particular challenge (5). Since historical investment performance is not necessarily extrapolative, a blended approach is advocated as an appealing, discretionary option in constructing portfolios. It is hardly worth analyzing extrapolative forecasts, whose authors take data on the rate of Russia's economic growth over longer or shorter periods of its past history, make a rough guess at the macroeconomic growth indicator for the next 10-15-20 years (pessimistic, optimistic and optimal), and use simple arithmetic operations to calculate the prospects of economic development. |
