Mistletoe is a parasitic plant and its favourite host tree is apple but it can grow well on poplars, limes, false acacias and hawthorn.
They are only distantly related to the false acacias or robinias (Robinia pseudoacacia, Leguminosae), and they are also different from the true mimosas, which belong to the genus Mimosa.
Their foliage resembles that of false acacias, but they are easily distinguished by their bright yellow flowers--false acacias have white or pink flowers--and by their fruit, a winged samara.
