In the mid-1960s, a young Canadian film-maker came out of nowhere to make two films that shattered taboos and put Canada on the international movie map.
Although Get on the Bus has a win-win formula for the filmmakers, investors and the Hollywood studio involved, assuring success as an investors or film-maker in a similar project may be much more difficult.
Perhaps no Canadian film-maker has had such a singular career path, navigating his way from the independent university filmmaking scene in the 1960s, to critically reviled commercial excrescences of the "tax shelter" era, to, more recently, the well-heeled approval of international art house and festival circuits.
