Those observations led health officials to fluoridate water supplies in the first place, says John P.
Fielding noted that only four of the 88 cities in the county - Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Long Beach and Pico Rivera - fluoridate their water, a process shown to prevent tooth decay.
In the United States, several agents are used to fluoridate community water supplies, including silicofluoride compounds (sodium silicofluoride and hydrofluosilicic acid) and sodium fluoride.
