The San Diego Port Commission said Tuesday that a 52-acre site in National City could accommodate a football stadium that would keep the Chargers in San Diego.
Mayor James Hahn, who three years ago backed an ill-fated proposal to bring a football stadium to the South Park neighborhood near Staples Center, has not spent much time rounding up support for the Coliseum bid, although he has expressed support for the plan.
Given the city's growing shortage of affordable housing, spending at least $1 billion dollars of taxpayer money to build a football stadium on the far west side is the wrong priority, attendees claimed.
