WASHINGTON -- The Defense Department is exploring ways to make its weapon systems and facilities more fuel-efficient and less vulnerable to market fluctuations and controls, senior defense officials told Pentagon reporters today.
Having lived through several months of gas prices at $3 a gallon and higher, more Americans are choosing fuel-efficient cars over SUV's and other big vehicles.
Politicians should raise gas taxes as opposed to increased regulation in order to move Americans from their gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs and into more fuel-efficient modes of transportation.
