The rules were created by the Sanitation Department with input from the Real Estate Board of New York, the Building Owners and Managers Association, the Trade Waste Association (representing the private garbage carters of New York) and other environmental groups. Commercial tenants and businesses may sort the materials themselves, which is called source separation, or have the private garbage carter administer post-collection separation, or come up with a combination of the two. |
