gene amplification

n.
A cellular process characterized by the production of multiple copies of a particular gene or genes to amplify the phenotype that the gene confers on the cell. Drug resistance in cancer cells is linked to amplification of the gene that prevents absorption of the chemotherapeutic agent by the cell.

1. an increase in the frequency of replication of a DNA segment.
2. such an increase induced by a polymerase chain reaction.

In view of these increasing applications, an international consensus regarding the appropriate method to evaluate HER-2/neu status for routine use (ie, HER-2/neu gene amplification and/or HER-2/neu protein overexpression) is
The company has four technology platforms: 1) CpG-based immunomodulatory oligonucleotides that act to modulate responses of the immune system; 2) Antisense technology which uses synthetic DNA to block production of disease causing proteins at the cellular level; 3) Synthetic DNA drug candidates that enhance the antitumor activity of certain marketed anticancer drugs, thereby increasing their effectiveness; and 4) Cyclicons, novel synthetic DNA structures for identifying gene function, which can be used for target validation and drug discovery as well as for PCR-based gene amplification.

Proposed mechanisms for such drug resistance include gene amplification, where multiple copies of key genes are made by the cancer cell as protection, and the presence of a cellular protein called P-glycoprotein, or P-170 (SN: 1/3/87, p.
Both cohorts will enroll only those patients that have specific MET driver mutations including MET gene point mutations, gene amplification, and MET or Axl gene rearrangements.
In the study, investigators conducted biomarker analysis of 206 ASCC specimens using Caris Molecular Intelligence's multiplatform approach, which consisted of gene sequencing (Sanger or next-generation sequencing[NGS]), protein expression analysis (immunohistochemistry[IHC]), and gene amplification (chromogenic or fluorescence in situ hybridization[CISH or FISH]).
This gene amplification in the laboratory leads to these cancers being responsive to drugs that will block Rictor.
To date, no data has been published that correlates the results of Herceptin therapy with Her-2 status determined by gene amplification methods alone.
As an aid in the treatment decision, HER2 IQFISH pharmDxTM can quantitatively determine HER2 gene amplification in the tumor, allowing oncologists to prescribe potentially life-saving therapies to patients quickly and effectively.
Major driving factors of the global market includes increasing prevalence of infectious disease and cancer, promise for less expensive and better throughput in gene amplification using INAAT, and advent of novel technologies such as Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP), Nucleic Acid Sequence Based Amplification (NASBA) and Helicase Dependent Amplification (HDA).
