Giant Timber bamboo has dark green to golden stalks that grow large to 100 feet tall, and up to 6 inch poles in diameter with green foliage.
Another choice for a tall hedge would be giant timber bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii), which grows up to 50 feet tall.
Perhaps it is just chance that one had lasted and the other lost, and of course in Los Angeles, a city where precious few bits of a magnificently optimistic past survive, I hugged the giant timber bamboo in the front yard of the Schindler house every chance I had.
