Most fuel-powered models use glow plug engines, small internal combustion engines fuelled by a special mixture of nitromethane, methanol and oil (in most cases a blend of castor oil and synthetic oil).
Innovations include a glow plug controller that virtually eliminates cold-start white smoke, and an engine control unit that provides smoother operation and better synchronization in twin engine applications.
Then there was the perception of who would drive a diesel car, chaps called Norman who subscribed to magazines with names like 'the joy of glow plugs.
