I rejoice in a children's film that avoids gooeyness, but if The Fantastic Four is the box-office hit of the summer, it may be because kids nowadays prefer straightforward, dumb heroics.
I mean, it's fabric stretched over a box on a wall with some paint on it; the image on the box doesn't have to depict the gooeyness of paint for it to be a painting.
``Pipe Dream'' is funny and also heartwarming without stooping to gooeyness.
