En el Reino Unido las botas altas de goma verdes green wellingtons se suelen asociar con las clases acomodadas, ya que son las botas que se utilizan normalmente para montar a caballo, ir de caza o de pesca, deportes que han sido tradicionalmente asociados a la clase alta. Por este motivo, el término green-wellie brigade (que podría traducirse al español por el de señoritos del campo), se utiliza a veces despectivamente para referirse a ciertos aspectos negativos del comportamiento de dicha clase social.
