This magmatism is present in the Labrador Trough (Montagnais sills belonging to New Quebec Orogen Cycle 2 [#8a]), Cape Smith Belt (Chukotat Group [#8b]), northwest Superior province (Fox River sill, Molson dykes, Thompson Nickel Belt, and Wmnipegosis komatiites [#8c]), and the Animikie Basin and Marquette Range Supergroup of the southern Province (Hemlock and Gunflint formations and associated Kiernan sills [#8d]).
Lodge owners in northern Minnesota--with the cooperation of the public sector--created the Gunflint Trail system for cross-country skiing, making the entire area much more attractive.
The fossils come from Ontario's Gunflint Formation, which is famous for its microfossil treasures.
