The JetHawks remained in contention for a second half title until Monday's regular season finale against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, when despite several inspired comebacks they experienced a disappointing 14-12 loss that in many ways was a microcosm of their season.
High Desert, which defeated Lancaster 11-10 in 11 innings on Saturday to clinch its first half title since 1998, had 10 hits, including two homers.
Bernard Stephens' RBI single off JetHawks reliever Reuben Kerbs (2-1) lifted High Desert (39-30 second half, 75-64 overall), which won its first half title since 1998.
