The rest of the program happily focused on pure dancing, with guest artist Juan Ogalla cutting loose in an extended improvised solo highlighting his compact intensity and sharp, combative heelwork.
Choreography features pivots in place, side-to-side shifts and heelwork that is rhythmic and locomotive.
Among several outstanding scenes is the superbly directed encounter of mother and daughters around the dinner table, Rapping on the table, clapping, and with occasional heelwork, the rhythmic language of flamenco clearly expresses Bernarda's iron hold over her daughters.
