High-density lipoprotein, or good cholesterol, acts like a cleansing agent, taking cholesterol from arteries and depositing it in the liver. A novel drug called torcetrapib can dramatically increase blood concentrations of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the beneficial cholesterol, according to a preliminary study.
