| The recipes were developed in collaboration with dental, nursing and dietary specialists as well as with a home economist. In 1980 author Doris Christopher, former home economist and teacher, wanted to return to the workforce after raising her children: she began selling high-quality kitchen tools through cooking demonstrations and began her company, The Pampered Chef, from her basement. One reason for this shift, according to Neuhaus, was that the work of the domestic scientist, now home economist, changed from uplifting and Americanizing the immigrant masses to getting middle-class white women to consume. |
