(Astronautics) a method of missile guidance in which internal equipment enables it to steer itself onto the target, as by sensing the target's heat radiation

A system by which a missile or torpedo steers itself towards a target by means of a self-contained mechanism which is activated by some distinguishing characteristics of the target. See also active homing guidance; passive homing guidance; semi-active homing guidance.

Atlantic Research Corporation (ARC) produces both the solid rocket motor for the missile boost and the 180 individual attitude control motors for the closed loop homing guidance maneuvers during flight.
In the terminal flight phase, the on-board active radar seeker acquires the target and provides instantaneous data to the on- board guidance processor which determines homing guidance commands.
