homing guidance n (Astronautics) a method of missile guidance in which internal equipment enables it to steer itself onto the target, as by sensing the target's heat radiation A system by which a missile or torpedo steers itself towards a target by means of a self-contained mechanism which is activated by some distinguishing characteristics of the target.
