The Old Mexico Shop boomed selling huaraches, traditional Mexican peasant shoes made of strips of leather, and ristras, chile peppers tied together for drying.
Popular nibbles on offer are huaraches (corn tortillas filled with refried beans) and pancita (tripe in a chilli broth).
I see man tracks as well--the tell-tale tire prints of handmade huaraches, smooth-worn sneakers, striding steadily north toward Tucson and Phoenix, or northwest toward the brighter horizons of Greater Los Angeles--nearly always in pairs and threesomes.
