In June 1997, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory about cases of diabetes and hyperglycemia in patients receiving PIs.
In addition to providing a novel mechanism to treat hyperglycemia, AJD101 may contribute to beta-cell rest which could be expected to alter the otherwise progressive deterioration of pancreatic function that characterizes this chronic disease.
It is characterized by Hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin utilization coupled with the body's inability to compensate with increased insulin production.
