1. A polypeptide hormone secreted by the islets of Langerhans and functioning in the regulation of the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats, especially the conversion of glucose to glycogen, which lowers the blood glucose level.
2. Any of various pharmaceutical preparations containing this hormone that are derived from the pancreas of certain animals or produced through genetic engineering and are used in the medical treatment and management of diabetes mellitus (type I).

Novo Nordisk sued Sanofi-Aventis alleging that Sanofi-Aventis, through its sale of its SoloStar insulin delivery device, infringed one or more claims of its patent directed to an insulin injection pen requiring less force to inject the insulin medication.
As parents often need to administer to their child insulin until he or she is able to administer insulin injections on their own, this new indication for APIDRAA provides children (6 years and older) and their parents with a new option for treating diabetes, particularly of using APIDRAA SoloSTARA to administer APIDRAA.
Insulin injections are the most common form of diabetes treatment, and generally have to be taken 1 to 4 times a day to be effective, depending on the severity of your case and the dosage given.
