1. A signal to a computer that stops the execution of a running program so that another action can be performed.
2. A circuit that conveys a signal stopping the execution of a running program.

The company, which tests a range of products for government and industry, faced shutdowns as part of Southern California Edison's now- curtailed interruptible power program.
Manufacturers hardest hit by power outages and layoffs are primarily Edison customers that signed what are called "I-6" interruptible contracts with the utility years ago, with the understanding that the contracts would yield significant savings on utility bills.
The New York Oil Heating Association is calling for the use of higher sulfur fuel, interruptible contract reform and a requirement that those on such dual-fuel gas/oil systems keep a 10-day supply of oil on hand.
