An opening or short passage, especially in the body. The large opening in the base of the skull through which the spinal cord passes is called the foramen magnum (mgnm). The opening in the septum between the right and left atria of the heart, present in the fetus but usually closed soon after birth, is the foramen ovale (-vl, -vl, -vä-).

We hypothesized that PE procedures that reduced the opening of the intervertebral foramen and were related to common clinical presentation (eg, muscle weakness of the lower extremity) would be strongly associated with self-reports of low back symptom severity and function.
Intervertebral foramen (also called neural foramen)--an opening between vertebrae through which nerves leave the spine and extend to other parts of the body.
The authors stated that a segmental spinal artery enters the intervertebral foramen and divides into 3 branches outside the spinal canal at each segmental level of the spinal cord: the anterior and posterior longitudinal spinal canal arteries and the radicular artery.
