inventory control point

An organizational unit or activity within a Department of Defense supply system that is assigned the primary responsibility for the materiel management of a group of items either for a particular Service or for the Defense Department as a whole. Materiel inventory management includes cataloging direction, requirements computation, procurement direction, distribution management, disposal direction and, generally, rebuild direction. Also called ICP.

The F/A-18 FIRST, from the Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Inventory Control Point, Philadelphia, provided an innovative performance-based logistics approach that increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the F/A-18 by uniting the responsiveness of industry with the expertise and capacity of the Navy's organic support activities.
In October 1977, he was ordered to the 3rd Force Service Support Group as the Officer-In-Charge, Inventory Control Point, Iwakuni, Japan.
It is on loan from the Naval Inventory Control Point, Philadelphia, Pa.
