kidney stone
A calculus that originates in the kidney and is usually composed of calcium salts, uric acid, cystine, and other compounds. Kidney stones cause extreme pain and bleeding if they obstruct the passage of urine in the kidney or in the ureter. They can often be treated with lithotripsy .

EATING a healthy diet each day keeps kidney stones away, scientists have found.
In most cases, kidney stones are caused by dehydration.
However, the diet, which consists of high-fat foods with very few carbohydrates, causes a build-up of calcium in the urine and the formation of kidney stones in about 6 percent of those on it.
