| We notice a large lemonade berry (Rhus integrifolia), another fragrant leafed plant, as well as its cousin, the sugar bush (Rhus ovata). Lela Moore, who works at Stough Canyon Nature Center in Burbank, pointed out one of the perks of exploring the Verdugos as lemonade berry makes its springtime appearance. Through their research, the students came up with a list of trees and plants that would thrive next to the river - sycamore and cottonwood trees, native grasses, poppies, sage and lemonade berry bushes - and incorporated them into the park design. |
