Byline: PHIL DOHERTY BUDDING footballers teamed up with lifeguards from the RNLI to test their lifesaving skills.
Thomas Lloyd, Provincial Grand Master for Staffordshire, paid a visit to the lifesaving helicopter base at Tatenhill Airfield, near Lichfield, to meet the air crew and present the charity with pounds 4,000.
The beach was closed and unpatrolled because it was the winter off-season, but a lifesaving official said the incident had prompted him to request future surveillance, including use of shark-spotting aircraft.
